How do I get a UCT Plus award?
1. When can I register to take part in UCT Plus?
All students that want to take part in UCT Plus must register for the programme within the relevant academic year in which they are active in the role.
Students on the leadership pathways can register to take part when they become active in the role.
Students which occupy a role on the Leadership through elected positions of responsibility pathway can register on the programme as soon as they take office, towards the end of the academic year.
Students which occupy a role on the Leadership through active learning, Leadership through role-modelling within the UCT community, and Leadership through service to the community pathways can register on the programme as soon as they take office or start the programme, at the beginning of the academic year.
All students that want to register for UCT Plus for that particular academic year must register for the programme before the final deadline for registration lapses. The specific date changes each year, but usually lapses within March of the academic year. Please check the application form for further details.
2. I am doing this work or hold this role anyway, do I need to register for the award?
Yes, all students that want to be recognised for a UCT Plus Award must register for the programme by the specified deadlines, and meet all the other deadlines required for the programme.
3. What are the compulsory requirements that I have to fulfil on the programme?
Students on the leadership pathways are required to do the following:
Log and track their hours:
Log their hours which detail the activities they have performed in their respective roles. These hour logs are supported by appropriate evidence. Further information will be provided on registration.
Complete a reflection exercise:
Complete an online reflection of experience gained from the relevant extra-curricular activities. Information about this exercise will be provided at registration of the programme.
4. Where do I track my hours and attendance of required events?
This UCT Plus programme uses an online platform for tracking of activities and hours. Further information on this system will be provided when students are registered on the programme.
5. Who verifies my activities?
Administrators registered for each organisation, for example, a society chair, member of the executive management committee, Faculty Council Chair etc., could confirm your attendance or completion of relevant activities. These activities are also verified by other appointed administrators relevant to the context of your organisation. It is the responsibility of each participant on the programme to provide all the relevant information when submitting their hours so that there is sufficient evidence to support the verification of these activities in good time.
6. What deadlines must I meet to qualify for the UCT Plus award?
There are deadlines for the submission of hour logs and the final reflection. Participants must meet these deadlines in order to progress with the programme. Specific dates and deadlines will be provided following registration. Students will be notified in December of the outcome of the award.
7. How can students submit an application to take part in UCT Plus?
Student applications can be submitted for UCT Plus under ‘my forms’ on the MyCareer portal. Please consult the application form for closing dates.
